The shift

A night runs from 22:00 to 06:00 — twenty-four real minutes, three minutes to the hotel hour. It gets stranger as it goes on: the first two hours are a job, and the last two are not.

The front desk

Guests ring the bell and wait. Check them in and hand over the right key from the board behind the desk. The open night book on the counter records the night as it happens — hold E to pick it up and read it.

Calls

Incidents appear across the building: sick on a carpet, a broken air conditioner, a smoke alarm going off, a room that wants its breakfast. Many need a tool — the mop and bucket, the toolbox, a torch, the master key — so the job is often two trips: one to fetch the right thing, one to use it. Carried things are carried in your hands, and they bump into door frames.

The lift and the master key

Rooms are locked. The master key on the board opens any of them, and the lift serves the floors guests can book. It also has a button for a floor that is not on the directory. You will need the master key to press it, and something to see with when you get there.

The rating

The hotel starts every night at five stars, shown on the wall behind the desk and on your screen. Every call left open drains it; answering calls, keeping guests happy and getting them to the right rooms keeps it up. At 06:00 the register prints the night's audit — what cost you what, and who did the most.

★★★☆☆60–74%Three-star standard

Losing every star does not end the night. You still have until six.

Difficulty and modifiers

Four difficulties — Easy, Normal, Hard and Good Luck — change how fast things go wrong, never what a star means. Easy also shows arrows to whatever needs doing next. Shift modifiers, ticked in the menu, make a night worse on purpose.

Accessibility

Under Options ▸ Accessibility: field of view, inverted look, reduced camera motion, reduced flashing, toggle sprint and crouch, visual task directions on every difficulty, and sound captions with a choice of size, background and colour. Captions show which side a sound came from.
